Review Battleship

Directed by Peter Berg, who last directed Will Smith and Charlize Theron in Hancock (2008), produced by Brian Goldner and Bennett Schneir who also produced Transformers franchise (2007-2011) and starring Taylor Kitsch who recently starred in the John Carter (2012 ) with the way the story is inspired from a popular video game, Battleship seems to have all the right elements to become a science fiction action movie that can please the audience. Unfortunately, this did not happen in this movie. Haunted by the script and the dialogue is minimal and visual appearance that is not able to bring something new, Battleship tend to look boring along the 131-minute duration of the film is running.
With the manuscript of stories written by Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber (Red, 2010), Battleship tells the story of two brothers with two contradictory character, Stone (Alexander Skarsgård) and Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch). If Stone is a member of the navy with the level of discipline and life is so orderly, so Alex is a young man without a job, lazy and without a clear purpose in life. Embarrassed to see his brother continues to be in an uncertain life, Stone finally forced Alex to join him in the navy. A force that inevitably eventually accepted by Alex.Coercion is not the only factor that makes Alex Stone received coercion. Alex is currently trying to captivate Samantha Shane (Brooklyn Decker), a beautiful girl who is the daughter of a high-ranking officer in the navy, Vice Admiral Shane (Liam Neeson). Alex's early days in the navy is clearly a difficult period given the bad habits that never changed. However, when a threat comes from outer space to disrupt the tranquility of the citizens of Earth, Alex finally felt called. Together with colleagues in the Navy, Alex then fought hard to save the world.

Of course, the premise offered by the film, the audience should be able to prepare themselves to face the fact that Battleship is not a film that cling to the power of story or dialogue script writing. Battleship clearly is a film that wants to lull the audience with special effects look spectacular through the blast scenes and battles. Peter Berg is able to bring these advantages. However, do not expect too much. What shows through Battleship Berg feels like repetition of the various action scenes and explosions that have shown a lot of similar films. Able to attract and keep the main attraction in this movie, but very far from being innovative.

Script story and dialogue is delivered in a Battleship actually displayed modest, and often felt and sounded ridiculous to be heard. So also with the characters presented in the shallows. Not only from the human characters, but also the character of the space aliens that were presented. The audience did not ever get a definitive explanation of what the aliens are, why they are attacking the Earth, where they came from and many other questions. In short, the alien is present in the Battleship storyline just as an excuse to produce a series of action scenes and explosions in this movie.

Another major problem is in the acting department Battleship is on this movie. Indeed, as the script the story, the appearance of acting is not preferred in similar films. But the acting department Battleship filled with a mediocre performances. Not bad actually, but every line is like a movie actor does not have a convincing chemistry with each other. Alexander Skarsgård seem odd to be the elder sister Taylor Kitsch. Romance romantic character Alex (Kitsch) and Samantha (Brooklyn Decker) also looks so fake. Friendship that exists between the character of Alex (Kitsch), Raikes (Rihanna), Nagata (Tadanobu Asano) and Ordy (Jesse Plemons) also looks less convincing. Then there is Liam Neeson in attendance with a brief role, and almost without any purpose. Battleship may actually be even more entertaining if the relationship between the character able to present more powerful and convincing.

Actually, throughout the telling of the Battleship, it is felt that Berg did not want the film to move with the groove that is too serious. That it produces Battleship purely as an entertainment that sometimes seem ridiculous, and the audience should also treat the same thing when watching. Not one. But the weaknesses are listed along Battleship storytelling often makes this film seem to tell a long-winded, too flat and tend to be boring. Special effects look pretty intense scenes presented in some of the least able to avoid the Battleship into a movie so bad. A film is predictable, shallow and failed to capitalize on its potential to perform a variety of fun.
